Opera and the time-to-first-paint
Jun 5, 2004Nontroppo asked me to whip up this little test to compare styled vs. unstyled loading of content in Opera to the same in other browsers.
Read the explanation on the test page for full details, but essentially the test shows this: That Opera builds it's HTML and allows it to be a script target even before CSS is loaded and applied.
Other browsers (MSIE, Firefox, Mozilla) wait until all elements are styled before allowing scripts to target them.
Update: All modern browsers now allow access to the element before the stylesheet has loaded. So this test case is obsolete.
